Stats on the increased allergies among children always get a lot of press, but I've never seen anything about this in adults. I wonder if there is a similar phenomenom in adults? I developed a severe allergy to pistachios and cashews in my mid-20s.

There is a good deal of scientific support for the hygiene hypothesis, and genetically modified foods are a concern for everyone. However, a major consideration you did not mention is the overuse of antibiotics suppressing the establishment of healthy gastrointestinal (GI)tract flora. For an in-depth discussion of the importance of healthy GI flora for prevention of food allergies and other conditions, please see: http://www.drhusbands.com/blog/general/preventing-eczema-allergic-rhinitis-or-asthma-in-children-using-probiotics/.
